Riot Games is reintroducing Hextech Chests to League of Legends after widespread player dissatisfaction with their removal earlier this year.

As part of the upcoming Act 2 update, set to launch next week, players will once again have the chance to earn these coveted rewards. Each act will offer up to ten Hextech Chests and Keys, ensuring more opportunities for in-game bonuses.

Eight chests will be included in the free battle pass, replacing previous seasonal rewards like skins, while the remaining two can be unlocked through Riot’s updated honor system, which has undergone recent adjustments.

Community reaction to the removal

The removal of Hextech Chests initially sparked significant outrage among players, with some even threatening to boycott the game entirely.

For years, these chests had been a popular way to earn free cosmetics and champions, adding to the sense of reward and progression within the League of Legends community.

In response to player feedback, Riot has announced a 50% reduction in blue essence costs, making it easier for new participants to unlock champions. Alongside these changes, the long-awaited return of Your Shop and Blue Essence Emporium will restore features that have been temporarily absent from the game.

Riot’s efforts to address community concerns extend beyond Hextech Chests. The company is also revising lane swap mechanics, which have been a source of ongoing controversy among both casual and competitive gamers.

Dev Update promises rewarding experience

Riot Games recently shared a Dev Update video outlining these changes and reinforcing its commitment to making time spent in League of Legends feel more rewarding for all players.

In addition to bringing back Hextech Chests, Riot will introduce monthly Clash PvP tournaments starting in March and April, reviving popular formats that had been on hiatus.

While players are cautiously optimistic about these updates, many remain watchful as the studio continues refining and adjusting the game.
